Printed Text on Back: Cleveland (Municipal) Stadium CLEVELAND, OHIO CAVERNous. Completed in 1931 as part of Cleveland's bid for the 1932 Olympics, Municipal Stadium was the first city-owned major league baseball stadium in the U.S. In addition to its 74,000+ capacity, the field frustrated many a power hitter. The home run distance to center field was 470 feet before it was shortened in 1947. After 15 years when the Indians played here on Sundays and holidays, (other games were contested at League Park), owner Bill Veeck moved the team to Municipal Stadium full time, also in 1947. During its baseball history, Municipal Stadium hosted two World Series (1948 and '54) and four All-Star Games. After the Indians moved to Jacobs Field in 1994 and the NFL Browns fled to Baltimore, the stadium was razed beginning in 1996. This scene: opening day 1974.
